Francis Luces is a Consultant with Pterra Philippines Inc. focusing on electric power system dynamics, analysis, control, and design. His experience includes performing studies of generator interconnection, transmission planning, capacity deliverability, system stability, generator siting, electrical transients, power plant control dynamic model validations, and reliability impacts of solar PV, Wind Farm, and Battery Energy storage systems (BESS). He has a wealthy background in power system engineering theory and brings this knowledge together with practical approach to solve prevailing power system problems. He is proficient with the application of analytical tools for power system analysis such as PSS/E, PSLF, TARA, PSCAD/EMTDC, Aspen OneLiner, ETAP, and OpenDSS. He improves work efficiency and time-sensitive simulations via automation scripts written in Python.
Prior to joining at Pterra Philippines, Mr. Luces was a Senior Engineer at National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) where he formulated operational and maintenance strategies for reliable power system operations and developed spreadsheet program based on IEEE C57.104/IEC 60599 for severity interpretation of dissolved gas levels found on 4-750 MVA and 12-300 MVA power transformers.
