Francis Luces

Principal Consultant and Engineering Manager

Francis Luces is a Consultant with Pterra LLC focusing on the analysis, control, and design of electric power systemsHe has performed studies of generator siting and interconnectionstransmission planning, system stabilityelectrical transients, and dynamic model validations for legacy and advanced power plants. He has also participated on many studies dealing with the technical aspects of interconnection of solar photovoltaics, land-based and offshore wind farms, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). He has a wealthy theoretical background on power system analysis and has an industry experience in the operations and maintenance of high-voltage equipment and devicesHe is proficient with the application of analytical tools for power system analysis such as PSLF, PSS/E, TARA, PSCAD/EMTDC, Aspen OneLiner, ETAP, SKM, and OpenDSS and improves work efficiency and time-sensitive simulations via automation scripts written in Python, Matlab, and domain-specific language.

Prior to joining Pterra, Mr. Luces was as a Senior Engineer at National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) where he formulated operational and maintenance strategies for reliable power system operations and developed spreadsheet program based on IEEE C57.104/IEC 60599 for severity interpretation of dissolved gas levels found on 4-750 MVA and 12-300 MVA power transformers.

Mr. Luces is a Member of IEEE and its Power & Energy Society.
